Microsoft Finalizes Acquisition of Skype

Microsoft has finalized its acquisition of Skype, five months after it was first announced. Under the new deal, which is said to cost $8.5 billion, Skype CEO Tony Bates will be reassigned as the president of the new Skype Division of Microsoft and will have to report directly to Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer. Most of Skype employees, who are stationed in offices around the world, will remain in the team. These offices include outposts in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia.
“By bringing together the best of Microsoft and the best of Skype, we are committed to empowering consumers and businesses around the globe to connect in new ways,” said Bates.
Although the deal has been completed, the acquisition remains under review in several countries.
